Guide 01 · Local verification
Get local channels without guessing.
Check ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, and other local stations with a market-first workflow that separates provider carriage from antenna reception.
Direct answer
The shortest useful version
Check each provider's official local-lineup tool with the service ZIP or address, record the stations it actually returns, and use the FCC map separately for over-the-air reception. Treat any station that is not explicitly returned as unknown, not included or excluded.
A national channel list cannot answer a local-station question. Streaming carriage can change by service address, plan, station agreement, and provider rules. Antenna reception is a separate question that depends on the address and surrounding terrain.
Use this guide to produce a dated, address-specific shortlist. It does not infer a television market from a city name or promise that a network's local affiliate is available.
- National answer
- No
- A network logo on a national plan page does not prove local affiliate carriage.
- Best input
- Service location
- Use the ZIP or address requested by the provider's own lookup tool.
- Fallback check
- FCC reception map
- Use it for antenna estimates only, never as evidence of streaming carriage.
Decision path
Work from need to evidence.
List the broadcasts you actually need
Write down the network, the program or event that matters, and whether a live local station is required. A national on-demand library may not satisfy that need.
Run every provider's local lookup
Enter the service location on the official provider surface. Do not copy a result from a nearby city or assume the same answer across a ZIP boundary.
Record station-level evidence
When the provider shows a station or call sign, save the provider, plan context, location used, result, and date. If it only shows a network family, note that limitation.
Check the antenna path separately
Use the FCC reception estimate for the installation address. Indoor versus outdoor equipment, placement, terrain, and building materials still affect real reception.
Recheck before payment
Open the live lookup again at checkout. Carriage and eligibility can change after an earlier comparison was made.
Working sheet
Local-channel verification sheet
Complete one row per must-have broadcast. Keep an unknown state instead of filling gaps with assumptions.
| Need | Official check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Network or local program | Provider lineup tool | Station/call sign shown, plan, location, and date |
| Live versus on demand | Provider result details | Whether the listing explicitly says live, delayed, or on demand |
| Antenna alternative | FCC reception map | Estimated signal and the exact address checked |
| Unresolved station | Provider support or later recheck | Unknown; do not mark included or unavailable |
Streaming carriage and antenna reception are two different questions
A streaming provider negotiates carriage and applies its own location and plan rules. An antenna receives a broadcast signal at a physical location. One result cannot validate the other. A station may be receivable over the air but absent from a streaming lineup, or a provider may carry a station even when indoor reception is difficult.
Keep the two paths side by side in your worksheet. That makes a hybrid setup visible: a smaller streaming plan may work if an antenna reliably covers the missing broadcasts, but only the address-level checks can support that conclusion.
Read a local result literally
Prefer a named station or call sign over a generic network badge. Confirm which plan the result describes and whether the provider labels the feed live. If a page asks for a ZIP but never returns a specific station, the honest answer is that the station remains unverified.
- Do not convert a postal city into a television market.
- Do not assume every affiliate of a national network follows the same carriage rule.
- Do not use a reception estimate to claim provider availability.
- Do not reuse an old screenshot without recording when and where it was observed.
Turn the checks into a household decision
Mark each must-have station confirmed, unresolved, or covered by a tested antenna path. Then compare only plans that satisfy the confirmed requirements. If a missing broadcast is tied to one weekly program, include the cost and inconvenience of the fallback rather than treating every missing channel equally.
The final verification belongs at the provider's live checkout or lineup tool. This site's postal cue is useful for navigation, but it is not authorized local-carriage evidence.
